Loteria is a staple of Mexican culture. It is a card game consisting of 56 cards. Every card has a designated image, name, and assigned number. This project is an ongoing series of photographs reimagining the images on the original card game. The reimaginations address crucial themes in a lighthearted way. One of them takes the original card “El Valiente'' originally portraying a brave man and reimagines it to show “La Valiente” a brave woman. My placement of the article “La” before the word creates the feminine version of the word. The Spanish language favors the masculine forms of words here I change this. “La Valiente'' portrays a woman now in a luchadora mask, a sport once dominated by men. 2023-Present.
